Our Approach

Brendan Burns

Based in Jackson Wyoming, in the heart of the Teton Mountain Range, Brendan enjoys amazing access to diverse world-class splitboarding and climbing terrain.  Steep and craggy, the Tetons have become a year round “office” and playground for Brendan, enabling him to share his experience, knowledge, and love of the mountains with all. He has logged over 20 years in the Tetons – a perfect fit for his life’s passions.

Winters will find Brendan guiding skiers and snowboarders thoughout the Tetons and the Rocky Mountain West. He also runs custom trips to the Alps, Japan, British Columbia, and Alaska. During summers he works as an Exum Mountain Guide leading climbing and mountaineering trips in the Tetons, Wind River Mountains and surrounding rock climbing crags. Spring and fall are a time for Brendan to get out and explore mountain ranges around the world, as well as to pursue his other passions of mountain biking and surfing.

When not guiding, Brendan enjoys the numerous outdoor activities found in the Jackson Hole Valley with his wife, son, and close friends.

Our Story

Why Brendan?

At the end of a day of splitboarding/snowboarding/climbing, Brendan is most satisfied when clients have not only experienced a great day in the mountains but also added skills that will bring them a step closer to enjoying the freedom of the mountain environment on their own.

This approach was instilled in him early in his career as a mountain guide through his work with NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) and Exum Mountain Guides where he was introduced to and adopted into his practice the “American” style of guiding which focuses on education through guiding.

As a year-round professional snowboard and climbing guide, Brendan continuously sharpens his technical skills through direct experience in the mountains and through continuing education in snow science, efficient guiding techniques, and mountain rescue. This empowers him to share cutting-edge technical skills with clients, helping them build a base to undertake their desired mountain objectives.

With over two decades of backcountry snowboarding and climbing experience, Brendan has worked and played in a variety of mountain ranges, becoming well versed in their distinct nuances including winter snowpack, glaciation, and geological features. This knowledge gives him the ability to tailor successful trips for clients all over the Mountain West – and the world – that take into account weather, current snow conditions and terrain.

Brendan has been professionally involved with the snowboard industry for 20 years. From his early days as a snowboard shop assistant manager, throughout a decade’s long career as an AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors) certified Snowboard Instructor, Coach, and Trainer to his work as a professional guide, Brendan has kept pace with the newest in splitboard and snowboard technology – a knowledge he enjoys sharing with clients. His background as an instructor also gives him the ability and experience to tailor his guiding to a variety of age groups and learning abilities.

In 2015 Brendan became one of the first AMGA (American Mountain Guide Association) certified Splitboard Guide.  In doing so, he helped open the door to aspiring guides; by proving splitboards are a viable tool for guiding.

It is this combination of Brendan’s diverse background in mountaineering and his technical understanding of splitboarding, that keeps him at the forefront of splitboard guiding. In 2015 he created splitboard specific camps for Exum Mountain Guides, with the goal to provide a platform for splitboarders to gain the technical knowledge and skillset to enable them to snowboard in more extreme mountain terrain, helping them take their splitboarding to the next level. These camps continue to expand and have been profiled in Transworld Snowboarding.
